● Sep 22 [09:00] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-boilingsteam.com | Scathe: Not The Doom You Are Looking For - Boiling Steam [09:00] schestowitz[09:00] schestowitzScathe definitely reminds me of the recent Doom games in some of what it is going for: fast paced, demon slaying, pure shooter experience. That is not to say they are similar, far from it, but I think will be a common first impression for anyone that has played them.
[09:00] schestowitzUnfortunately, Scathe in its current form doesnt hold baby demons first fireball to its recent Doom forebears.

[09:14] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-www.bunniestudios.com | Book Review: Open Circuits bunnie's blog [09:14] schestowitz[09:14] schestowitzThe pages of Open Circuits contain ample inspiration for both novices and grizzled veterans alike. Having been in electronics for four decades, I sometimes worry Im becoming numb and cynical as I watch the worlds landfills brim with cheap electronics, built without care and purchased (and disposed of) with even less thought. However, as I thumb through the pages of Open Circuits, that excitement, that [09:14] schestowitz awe which I felt as a youth when I traced my fingers along the outlines of the resistors and capacitors of my first computer returns to me. Schlaepfer and Oskay render even the most mundane artifacts, such as the ceramic disc capacitor, in splendid detail and in ways Ive never seen before. Prior to now, I had no intuition for the dimensions of an actual capacitors dielectric material. I also didnt realize that every thick film resistor [09:14] schestowitz bears the marks of lasers that trim it to its final value. Or just seeing the cross-section of a coaxial cable, as joined through a connector all of a sudden, the telegraphers equations and the time domain reflectometry graphs take on a new and very tangible meaning to me. Ah, I think, so thats the bump in the TDR graph at the connector interface!

[09:45] schestowitz[09:46] schestowitzThe Washington Post is reporting that the US Customs and Border Protection agency is seizing and copying cell phone, tablet, and computer data from as many as 10,000 phones per year, including an unspecified number of American citizens. This is done without a warrant, because courts have long granted an exception to border authorities, allowing them to search peoples devices without a [09:46] schestowitz warrant or suspicion of a crime.
